First-Day Photo Safety

The first day is about protection, not panic.
If images, fake images, screenshots, sextortion, or threats are involved, the first response can change what happens next.

First-day order matters
CALM. SAVE. REPORT. SUPPORT.

The first day is not about yelling, blaming, deleting everything, or proving the story publicly. It is about protecting the child, stopping further harm, saving key details, and choosing the safest reporting/removal path.

Do not make the child feel like they are the problem.
Shame can make them hide the next part.

First rule

Do not blame the child.

Do not forward the image.

Do not post screenshots publicly.

Do not delete everything before saving key details.

Do not let the child deal with it alone.

Protect the child before protecting your anger.

The first-day order

Stay calm
Reassure the child
Stop further contact
Save key details
Report and request removal
Keep supporting the child
This order helps reduce harm without accidentally spreading the image further.

Step 1 — Calm the child first

Children may panic, shut down, deny, cry, get angry, or refuse to talk. Your first tone matters.

Say this

“You are not in trouble for telling me. We are going to deal with this carefully.”

Avoid this

“How could you let this happen?” “Why did you do that?” “Everyone is going to know.”

Step 2 — Stop further contact

The goal is to slow the pressure down while preserving what happened.

Step 3 — Save key details carefully

You are not trying to create a perfect case file. You are trying to stop critical details disappearing.

Avoid forwarding, reposting, or unnecessarily copying sexualised content involving a child.

Step 4 — Choose the right path

Threats or blackmail

Use sextortion and reporting pathways. Do not pay or send more.

Sextortion

Image is online

Use official image removal and reporting pathways quickly.

Image Removal

Fake or AI image

Fake content can still be harmful. Report and preserve details safely.

Step 5 — Report and request removal

Use official services and platform reporting. Keep copies of report confirmations where possible.

If the child is in immediate danger, use emergency services first.

Step 6 — Support after the first report

Reporting is not the end. The child still needs calm support and restored safety.

Final POSH reminder

The first day is not about perfect answers.

It is about protecting the child, not spreading the image, saving key details, and reporting safely.

Calm action reduces harm faster than panic action.
